Maybe because you should like someone based on their personality and not their nationality? Gwin seems like a sound guy and I like his attitude. Who gives a f*ck if he's American? I hope he wins too.

Ok, this might be a retarded question but... why the hell are they painting the rocks orange? Is this a rule or something? They will recon the shit out of the track anyway so I really don't see the point, overkill? Pictures/videos tend to make a track seem easier than it truly is but most sections coated in orange don't really look that brutal.

Oh and... Holy mud batman! Slip'n'slide should sponsor this.

flag bigburd (Jun 30, 2011 at 6:21)
yeah I often think it's over kill to paint the rocks , it's not the ones you can see that take you out ,it's the f*ckers under the powder/loam or get brought up once the track is worn in I worry about Razz
  • + 2
flag PLC07 (Jun 30, 2011 at 9:06)
Yeah, I know what you mean. Stealthy loose rocks that make you lose control, then somehow (haven't figured that one out yet) fly up to wreck your chain/chainring/chainguide/shins.
  • + 3
flag rigodon777 (Jun 30, 2011 at 9:49)
YOU haven't ridden this course. It's WAY more brutal than it looks in picture, but it still is one hell of a fun track!
  • + 1
flag cougar797 (Jun 30, 2011 at 10:50)
I dont know it looks pretty gnar. Look at the size of some of those rocks compared to the trees. You can use the trees angle on the ground to see how steep that thing is too.
  • + 2
flag PLC07 (Jun 30, 2011 at 11:12)
@rigodon777 no I havent and I'm aware it always look less steep in photos/videos. Still, I've seen some brutal rock gardens and I haven't crashed into them because they didn't have a neon sign pointing at them. I'm not saying I'm awesome. I'm just saying that it might be an overkill and a little odd. This isn't a family track, it's a world cup event for pro racers.
  • + 1
flag gaud (Jun 30, 2011 at 11:22)
I'm used to ride in this track and rocks painted in orange are not the most difficult section .... I still dont understand why they do this???? but its not the first time that i dont understand something in MSA!!!!
  • + 1
flag suicidedownhiller (Jun 30, 2011 at 11:38)
It's so the racers can see the rocks that are most likely to puncture a tire/cause a problem BECAUSE they are the smaller, and less noticeable ones. It's easier for the eyes to scan and identify orange objects rather than mud-colored rocks that just blend in. I thought everyone knew that? Around here we paint them to mark lines, or to warn that a rock is sharp as f**k and wants your tire...
  • + 1
flag PLC07 (Jun 30, 2011 at 12:55)
I've always considered that the capacity to rapidly analyze the terrain as you go was a crucial part of the sport. I'm sure people on the world cup know that it's better to avoid those and spot them instantly from a good distance, especially since they get to recon the track and practice on it. If it makes everyone happy then so be it.

Anyway, I guess I should have just shut up, it's official that the next time I go riding I'll most likely impale myself on one of those.

flag nfa2005 (Jun 30, 2011 at 13:25)
Mont st. Anne at nite (yes), seriously, (no) and watching people die (yes) in movies. But if there was a race at nite and it was lite up so people could see I bet an individual would have the common sense to have a safe pace so they would not kill them

  • + 1
flag TomBasic (Jun 30, 2011 at 9:32)
 Jtg3240,

You can choose in what order you want the comments to appear. If by "score," then the comments with the most positive props appear first, if by "time," then the comments are listed in the order in which they were posted.

And, those painted rocks just seem silly. Why don't they hire a crew of kids with angle grinders to smooth out the rocks while they're at it, too....
